About Amy

Amy Samson discovered a love of words at age 8
when Mrs. Tippy nominated her "Best 2nd Grade
Speller of 1979" in her elementary school's
spelling contest. And she won! She won.

Her first short story, "The War for Beauty,"
was published in the Boyle County Middle School Journal after Ms. Lansing, Amy's 7th grade English teacher, submitted it. It was a science fiction fairytale about an ugly planet's king making war on a beautiful planet's queen until the king learned beauty comes from within; even ugly can be beautiful.

Amy no longer writes science fiction. She prefers mainstream literary stories and personal essays that explore human nature, spirituality, and what it's all supposed to mean. She is deeply curious about people, spirit, and the world around her: she takes long walks on the Zen beach of enlightenment (where she is often tangled in the seaweed).

Amy lives in Atlanta with her husband, who is deeply curious about the UCLA Bruins and fishing, and their cat, who is deeply curious about catnip and headrubs. They just had a baby girl on October 30, 2008. They are all waiting to find out what she'll be curious about. Hopefully, it won't be seaweed.
